A Real Hearing Aids Consumer's Hearing Aids Prices Horror Story

A Hearing Aids Prices story is what this article is about, and what happened to a very kind, gentle and trusting elderly Hearing Consumer. And how you can avoid this ever happening to you. (The person in this article I am referring to as "Auntie" is a personal family member of mine.)

"Auntie" was suffering very noticeable moderate to severe hearing loss in both ears. So, being an average Hearing Consumer she went to her family Doctor which recommended she go to an Audiologist and have a hearing test and/or an Audiogram done. This is proper procedure for someone with noticeable hearing loss.

What happened next IMHO should never happen to an elderly Hearing Aids Consumer upon discovering "Auntie" did in fact have pretty severe hearing loss, the Audiologist offered to order the correct hearing devices for her. Well, without even asking about Hearing Aids Prices (she is very financially fit) she felt obligatedto make the purchase through him and said OK. The Hearing Devices were ordered, delivered, and as promised they did the job.

Here is the rubwhile enjoying a pleasant dinner with her I asked what her Hearing Prices/Costs were. She somewhat sheepishly told me ,416.00!I was Flabbergasted, even though I didn't, at that time, know anything about Hearing Aids Prices but I vowed to do something about this outrageous abuse of trust.

Researching the available Hearing Aids Types it was found there are five basic Hearing Types very briefly they are:

BTE; Behind The Ear ITE; In The Ear RIE; Receiver in The Ear ITC,MIC; In the Canal, Mini Canal CIC; Completely In The Canal

These 5 Hearing Types do vary widely in cost per type from manufacturer to manufacturer, but I found for the most part Quality Hearing Devices are extremely expensive IMHO at least for premium quality 100% digital Hearing CIC units.

The cheapo junk on the market being omitted.

I should mention here that the Hearing CIC or CIC hearing aids are by far preferred by senior adults to the rest of the Hearing Aids Types primarily because they are nearly invisible and produce excellent sound quality. Why then do they constitute only about 15% of sales? You guessed it, obscenely high prices. Who is at fault? It is a marketing fact that prices are set by "what the market will bear", sad but true.
